Ahoy pirates from around the world!
First, please let me introduce myself. My name is Marcel Kolaja and I'm a
member of the Czech Pirate Party. Prior joining the Czech Pirate Party, I
already had experience with topics related to the Pirate Movement, especially
as a board member of the Czech Linux Users' Group and later as a founding member
of the Czech Foundation For A Free Information Infrastructure.
As a member of the Czech Pirate Party Republic Committee, I play a role in the
process of setting the Czech Pirate Party direction. I'm also a vice-chairman
of the South Moravian regional organization of the Czech Pirate Party, which is
a position I will resign from, if I get elected into the PPI Board, as I want
to take the board membership seriously and responsibly. In the recent past, I
initiated the project of setting up a Wikileaks mirror by the Czech Pirate
Party and I was a coordinator of this project within the Czech Pirate Party
during international cooperation of the Pirate Parties around the world.
Professionally, I'm a Free Software expert with more than 10 year experience.
Currently, I work in a global company delivering telecoms solutions. My job is
to technically lead a team of highly experienced engineers providing 3rd level
support of systems carrying live traffic.
Now, please let me turn to my vision of the PPI. Issues are worldwide. We need
to take advantage of the fact that the Pirate Movement is worldwide as well. I
want the PPI to be a strong organization representing the Pirate Movement. In
order to achieve this goal, the PPI has to ensure that the members are real
Pirate Parties. We need to formulate our ideas on an international level.
Therefore, I'd like to initiate the process of formulating the general policy
of the PPI.
The core of the Pirate Movement ideology consists of freedom of information and
privacy protection. And the PPI members should agree on these fundamental
principles. It's hard to fight the entertainment industry propaganda as
solitary parties. However, unity will empower us to win this fight.
Our enemies are dangerous. Our enemies have money, our enemies have power. They
have been already working on creating methods of becoming the heroes in the eye
of public for a long period of time. They have been spreading myths and lies
about pirates in order to discredit us in the eye of public. Their methods are
sophisticated and insidious. And that's why they have been so successful. There
is HADOPI in France, there is ACTA on the table in the European Parliament. If
we don't stop it, there's more to come.
Our enemies created the term "intellectual property", which is clearly
non-sense. When people adopt this term it's hard for them to follow the
arguments and see why certain changes are needed. Then it's easy to use trade
marks as an argument in favor of copyright restrictions, as people perceive
these issues as a single subject. So, it's hard to fight this propaganda until
you have clear and well-founded arguments. There is no so-called intellectual
property, there is no so-called copyright protection. DRM is Digital
Restrictions Management. Don't be afraid to call things their proper names.
Delusional terms imply false decisions. Until you refuse these terms, you can't
win. Once you refuse them, you need arguments to support your idea. It takes
time and effort to build well-founded arguments. It makes no sense to build
these arguments on a per party basis when the issues are not country specific.
The PPI has to be able to supply all members with these arguments once they are
formulated. It makes no sense to re-invent the wheel again and again.
Furthermore, there are organizations that have similar or identical goals as
the Pirate Movement in specific areas. The PPI should cooperate with them and
offer them Observer Membership. As an example, I would name Free Software
Foundation, La Quadrature du Net, or Foundation For A Free Information
Infrastructure.
If I get elected, my main goal will be to move the PPI this direction. To
provide valuable support for the members this way. To enable and motivate
Pirate Parties to help the other Pirate Parties. Inspire ourselves mutually!
Let's use the results of each others' effort! Let's copy each others' success!
Let's act as a worldwide movement and show the world that sharing is caring!
Thank you for your attention!

IMHO správně se v angličtině užívá "the PPI".
