In Romania we have tried to "liberate" the pirate word (pirat in Romanain language) by first registering it as a trademark and then allowing free use of it. As in Rusia and Taiwan we
+encountered the opinion of authorities that "pirate" is a negative word, against the morale and cannot be used or registered and got a rejection. This raises further concerns on the
+possibility to register as a political party, but we are fighting the legal battle and hope to win.
While we were searching for arguments, a visit to OAMI [1] showed that the search results [2] included many marks with "pirat" including one fresh deposit (app no 010960953) from
+Germany.
As a trademark war is not something uncommon, the Romanian pirates just want to bring this matter to the attention of all european pirates in order for all to take whaterver measures
+consider necessary, and maybe even cordinate our efforts.
