The Pirate Member of the European Parliament Marcel Kolaja is looking for an Assistant in his Brussels office to assist him in the exercise of his duties as a Vice-President (VP) of the institution. The VP mandate consists of taking part in the discussions and decisions of the Parliament’s Bureau on organisational, financial and administrative matters, as well as replacing the President in plenary sittings and representing the institution vis-a-vis third parties.

As a Bureau member, VP Kolaja is in charge of Informatics and Telecommunications and Vice-Chair of the ICT Innovation Strategy Working Group, among other attributions.

The function consists of performing a multitude of tasks, including:

organising the calendar of all activities linked to the mandate of the Vice-President;
prepairing materials for the Vice-President, attending regular European Parliament's Bureau meetings, in close cooperation with the Bureau Secretariat;
liaising with the relevant institution’s administrations to identify their needs, share ideas for improvements, and assist the VP in translating and implementing his political priorities into the daily management of the European Parliament as an institution;
liaising with the other Bureau members and their staff to facilitate discussions and reach agreement;
coordinating with the other European Pirates MEPs and staff to form positions expressed within the EP Bureau;
liaising with the other Greens/EFA VP and Greens/EFA Group Bureau to represent the group positions at Parliament's Bureau level;
assisting the Vice-President in preparation of presiding the plenary sittings;
assisting the Vice-President in the preparation of EP representation missions, and attend the missions when needed.

We expect:
hold a University degree in line with the performance of the tasks described above;
very good knowledge of the functioning of the European Union and the European Parliament in particular;
interest in improving digitization in the European Parliament;
good knowledge of ICT;
passion for Free and Open Source Software and other open technologies;
an understanding of the core values of the Pirate movement;
good analytical and diplomatic skills;
good organisational and writing skills;
fluency in English; proficiency in French, Italian, Czech, German or other languages is an advantage;
reliability, accuracy, diligence, responsibility;
personal integrity and professional approach to the work;
full support for transparency in public affairs as well as deep respect for privacy in personal matters.

The position is linked to the duration of the mandate of Vice-President, which lasts 2 and a half-year. The job requires great flexibility and adaptability: irregular working hours, varying workloads, ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines, and the capacity for teamwork in an international environment. Regular travels to Strasbourg are expected.

We offer:

full time position as a Temporary Agent as laid down in the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union
contract for the duration of the VPs mandate;
salary based on experience and in accordance with Parliamentary regulation;
work with the best political party with possibility to participate in a meaningful and transparent policy;
starting date is expected in October 2019.

The condition for being included in the selection procedure is to send a structured CV and a cover letter containing a vision of the position. The winner's CV and cover letter may be published.

The nomination team has the right to extend the deadline. The first round is done by evaluating the CV, motivation and previous experience. The second round is realized in the form of practical verification of the required criteria. The evaluation is carried out by an evaluation committee composed of representatives of the VP and the Human Resources Department. Third round by personal interview.
